How this list was assembled
- One Overpass query per state, so a club's state is known by construction and never inferred.
- Anything that is ground rather than an organisation — a pitch, a court, a municipal pool — is dropped. 40,190 records did not survive that test.
- Records sharing a name within 250 m are merged as one venue, keeping the richer copy — 791 here.
- Each club is matched to the nearest named city inside its own state, capped by settlement size, or left unassigned.
- Nothing is ranked, weighted or promoted. No club can pay to move.
region = the query it came from (certain) city = nearest named place, same region, within cap rank = none

Questions people actually ask
- How many american football are there in the United States?
- 291 are recorded in OpenStreetMap as of 2026-07-30, spread across 35 states. That is what the open map knows, not a census — a club nobody has added yet does not appear.
- Do these football clubs pay to be listed here?
- No. Sideline takes no money from any club and has no ranking to sell. Listings are ordered alphabetically or by distance, never by payment.
- Why do some entries have no phone number or website?
- 63 of the 291 have a website on record. The rest simply have not had one added to OpenStreetMap. A blank field here always means "not recorded", never "none" — and anyone can fix it at the source in about two minutes.
